How to assemble a freestanding punch bag stand

• Spanners (supplied)
• Allen keys (supplied)
• Rubber mallet

Before you start, lay everything out on a soft surface (the flattened box works) and check it against the parts list in your manual.

• Main upright and bag arm
• Front and rear leg frames
• Weight-plate pegs
• Chains, swivel and S-hooks
• Bolts and a bag (often sold separately)

   Step 1: Bolt the leg frames to the base of the main upright, keeping the weight-plate pegs facing outward where the manual shows them.

   Step 2: Stand the frame up with a helper and fit the bag arm to the top of the upright, with any brace or gusset in place.

   Step 3: Tighten all frame bolts, then stand the stand on a mat on a flat floor and check it does not rock.

   Step 4: Load weight plates onto the pegs as the manual specifies, spread evenly between the pegs, before hanging the bag.

   Step 5: Fit the swivel and chains to the arm, then with your helper lift the bag and hook it on, checking every S-hook is closed.

   Step 6: Throw a few light punches and watch the frame; if the base lifts or slides, add more weight before training hard.

• Hanging the bag before the base is weighted, which can tip the stand over.
• Leaving S-hooks open, so the bag jumps off the chain.
• Using a heavier bag than the stand is rated for.
