How to assemble a recumbent bike
A recumbent exercise bike puts you in a low seat with a backrest and the pedals out in front, so the frame is long and the seat runs on a rail. The build is easy on the back once it is done, but the seat rail and the pedal threads need care.

Parts to check first
Before you start, lay everything out on a soft surface (the flattened box works) and check it against the parts list in your manual.
- Front frame with flywheel and crank
- Seat rail and rear stabiliser
- Seat, backrest and side handles
- Console mast and console
- Left and right pedals with straps
Step by step
Step 1: Bolt the front stabiliser to the front frame and the rear stabiliser to the seat rail on the floor.
Step 2: With your helper, join the seat rail to the front frame, lining up the bolt holes, and tighten the bolts evenly.
Step 3: Slide the seat carriage onto the rail and check it runs smoothly, then fit the seat, backrest and the side handles.
Step 4: Stand the console mast in its socket, connecting the sensor cable from the frame to the mast cable without pinching either.
Step 5: Fit the console and plug in its cable and any hand-pulse leads, then fit batteries or the power adapter.
Step 6: Fit the pedals: right pedal (R) clockwise, left pedal (L) counterclockwise, as its thread is reversed, starting both by hand.
Step 7: Set the seat position so your knee is slightly bent with the pedal at its furthest point, lock it in position, and pedal gently to check the console reads.
Common mistakes
- Pinching the sensor cable at the mast joint, so the console shows no speed or distance.
- Leaving the seat locking pin half-engaged, so the seat slides under load.
- Cross-threading a pedal by forcing it the wrong direction.
Safety notes
- Respect the user weight limit and keep children away from the moving pedals.
- Check the seat lock clicks fully in before every ride.
