How to assemble an exercise bike
An exercise bike is a main frame with the flywheel already fitted, plus stabilisers, seat post, handlebars, console and pedals. The pedals are the classic trap: the left pedal has a reverse thread.

- Allen keys and spanner (supplied)
- Pedal spanner or a 15 mm spanner
- Cross-head screwdriver
Parts to check first
Before you start, lay everything out on a soft surface (the flattened box works) and check it against the parts list in your manual.
- Main frame with flywheel
- Front and rear stabilisers
- Seat post and seat
- Handlebar post, handlebars and console
- Left (L) and right (R) pedals
Step by step
Step 1: Bolt the front and rear stabiliser feet to the main frame, with the transport wheels at the front.
Step 2: Fit the seat to the seat post, then slide the post into the frame and lock it at a comfortable height.
Step 3: Feed the console cable through the handlebar post and fit the post to the frame, without pinching the cable.
Step 4: Fit the handlebars and console, and connect the console cable.
Step 5: Screw the right pedal (R) into the right crank clockwise.
Step 6: Screw the left pedal (L) into the left crank anticlockwise, since it has a reverse thread, then tighten both firmly with the spanner.
Step 7: Level the bike with the adjustable feet and test the resistance knob and console.
Common mistakes
- Forcing the left pedal in clockwise, which ruins the crank thread.
- Pinching the console cable in the handlebar post.
- Setting the seat too low, which strains the knees.
Safety notes
- Check the pedals are tight before every ride for the first few weeks.
- Keep children's fingers away from the flywheel and pedals.
