How to assemble a treadmill
Most home treadmills arrive with the deck and motor already built; you raise the uprights, fit the console and connect one cable. The heavy lifting and the cable are where things go wrong, so take your time with both.

Parts to check first
Before you start, lay everything out on a soft surface (the flattened box works) and check it against the parts list in your manual.
- Base with deck, belt and motor
- Left and right uprights
- Console and handlebars
- Console cable and safety key
- Bolts, washers and covers
Step by step
Step 1: Unpack where the treadmill will stand. Leave the clearance the manual specifies behind the deck and at the sides.
Step 2: With your helper, lift the base out of the box by its frame, not by the motor cover or the belt.
Step 3: Stand the uprights in their brackets and start all bolts by hand. Feed the console cable up through the right upright without pinching it.
Step 4: Fit the console and handlebars to the tops of the uprights, connect the console cable plug firmly, and tuck the cable in so no bolt can crush it.
Step 5: Tighten all bolts evenly, then fit the side covers.
Step 6: Check the treadmill is level and adjust the feet if needed.
Step 7: Check the belt is centred and has the tension the manual describes. Plug the treadmill into a wall socket (not an extension lead) and test at a low speed with the safety key clipped to your clothing.
Common mistakes
- Trapping the console cable between the upright and its bracket, which crushes it.
- Using an extension lead or multi-plug, which can overheat.
- Running it straight away at high speed without checking the belt tracking.
Safety notes
- Always clip the safety key to your clothing when running.
- Keep children and pets away; unplug and remove the key after use.
- Leave clear space behind the treadmill as the manual specifies.
This is general guidance for this type of product. Your product's own manual comes first: follow its order, fittings and torque values where they differ from this page.
