How to assemble a bedside table

• Allen key (supplied)
• Cross-head screwdriver
• Small hammer

Before you start, lay everything out on a soft surface (the flattened box works) and check it against the parts list in your manual.

• Top, two sides and base
• Back panel
• Drawer box parts and drawer front
• Drawer runners
• Cam locks, dowels, nails and handle

   Step 1: Find the side panels with pre-drilled runner holes and screw the cabinet runners on, checking the manual's left and right markings.

   Step 2: Tap the dowels into the base and top, then fit both between the sides, turning each cam lock until it pulls the joint tight.

   Step 3: Check which edge of the back panel has the cable notch, if any, and nail the back on so the notch sits at the top rear.

   Step 4: Build the drawer box: fit the sides to the front, slide the base into its groove, and close it with the drawer back.

   Step 5: Fix the drawer runners to the box, slide the drawer in, and check the front sits flush with the cabinet sides.

   Step 6: Screw on the handle from inside the drawer, choosing the screw length the manual gives for your front thickness.

• Nailing the back on with the cable notch at the bottom.
• Using a handle screw that is too long, so it will not pull tight.
• Leaving the carcass out of square, which makes the drawer rub on one side.
