How to fit drawer runners

• Cross-head screwdriver
• Tape measure
• Pencil
• Try square or spacer block

Before you start, lay everything out on a soft surface (the flattened box works) and check it against the parts list in your manual.

• Cabinet runners, left and right
• Drawer runners, left and right
• Short screws for the runners
• Drawer box

   Step 1: Separate the runner halves and mark each one L or R; the manual usually shows a letter or a stop at the front end.

   Step 2: Screw the cabinet runners to the carcass sides with the front edge set back by the distance the manual gives, using the pre-drilled holes.

   Step 3: Measure from the bottom of the carcass to each runner at front and back to confirm both sides are at the same height and level.

   Step 4: Fix the drawer runners to the drawer sides, lining them up with the bottom edge of the drawer or the marked holes.

   Step 5: Slide the drawer in so the wheels or ball bearings drop into the cabinet runners, and push it until it closes against the stop.

   Step 6: If the drawer rubs or drops, check left and right have not been swapped, then adjust using the slotted holes before tightening.

• Swapping left and right runners, so the drawer will not engage.
• Using long screws that break through the outside of a thin carcass panel.
• Fixing one side higher than the other, so the drawer runs crooked.
