How to assemble a bathroom wall cabinet

• Cross-head screwdriver
• Drill with masonry or tile bits
• Spirit level
• Pencil and tape measure
• Cable and pipe detector

Before you start, lay everything out on a soft surface (the flattened box works) and check it against the parts list in your manual.

• Carcass panels and shelves
• Door or mirror door with hinges
• Hanging brackets or rail
• Screws and wall plugs suited to your wall
• Shelf pins or supports

   Step 1: Build the carcass and fit the hinge plates and hanging brackets as your manual shows.

   Step 2: Choose the position and check the wall with a detector for cables and pipes, especially above and below sockets and taps.

   Step 3: Hold the cabinet in place with a helper, check it is level and mark the fixing holes.

   Step 4: Drill the holes: on tiles, start with a tile bit and no hammer action, and put masking tape on the tile to stop the bit slipping.

   Step 5: Insert wall plugs that suit your wall and hang the cabinet on its brackets or screws.

   Step 6: Hang the door and adjust the hinges so it closes evenly, then fit the shelves.

• Using the small plugs from the box in a plasterboard or hollow wall, where they will not hold.
• Drilling tiles with hammer action on, which cracks them.
• Hanging the cabinet where the door hits a light fitting or mirror.
