How to assemble a cube storage unit

• Allen key (supplied)
• Cross-head screwdriver
• Small hammer
• Wall fixings to suit your wall

Before you start, lay everything out on a soft surface (the flattened box works) and check it against the parts list in your manual.

• Outer frame panels
• Inner dividers (long and short)
• Back panel if supplied
• Dowels, screws or cam locks
• Anti-tip strap

   Step 1: Lay out the panels and match them to the manual's letters; long outer panels and inner dividers are easy to confuse.

   Step 2: Tap the dowels into the holes on the panel edges so they all stick out evenly.

   Step 3: Join the inner dividers into a grid first if the manual shows it; otherwise fix the dividers to the base one at a time.

   Step 4: Fit the outer panels around the grid and tighten each screw or cam lock.

   Step 5: Check that each compartment is square, then fit the back panel if your unit has one.

   Step 6: Stand the unit in place and fix it to the wall with the anti-tip strap, especially if children will reach into it.

• Swapping an outer panel with an inner divider, which leaves visible unused holes.
• Overtightening screws in the thin panels so they split.
• Using a tall cube unit as a climbing step without a wall fixing.
