How to set up an electric scooter
Most e-scooters need only the handlebar stem locked upright and the handlebars fitted. The work is in checking: the folding latch, the brakes and the tyre pressure, and a full first charge.

Tools needed
- Allen keys (supplied)
- Pump with gauge (with a valve extension if needed)
Parts to check first
Before you start, lay everything out on a soft surface (the flattened box works) and check it against the parts list in your manual.
- Deck with folded stem
- Handlebars and grips
- Charger
- Screws for the handlebar clamp
- Bell and reflectors
Step by step
Step 1: Unfold the stem and lock the folding latch until it clicks; the safety catch must be engaged.
Step 2: Connect the handlebar cables if they are separate, then fit the handlebars and tighten the clamp screws evenly.
Step 3: Check that the stem does not move back and forth when you push and pull the bars.
Step 4: Pump the tyres to the pressure printed on them.
Step 5: Charge fully with the supplied charger before the first ride.
Step 6: Test both brakes at walking pace, then ride at the lowest speed setting to get used to the throttle.
Common mistakes
- Riding with the folding latch not fully locked.
- Underinflated tyres, which increase the risk of punctures and falls.
- Charging with a different charger.
Safety notes
- Check the local rules for e-scooters where you ride.
- Wear a helmet and charge away from anything flammable.
This is general guidance for this type of product. Your product's own manual comes first: follow its order, fittings and torque values where they differ from this page.
