How to assemble a balance bike
A balance bike has no pedals, so assembly is just the handlebars, seat and sometimes a wheel. The important part is setting the seat height so the child can sit with both feet flat on the ground.

Parts to check first
Before you start, lay everything out on a soft surface (the flattened box works) and check it against the parts list in your manual.
- Frame with rear wheel
- Front wheel (sometimes)
- Handlebars
- Seat and seat post
- Axle nuts and caps
Step by step
Step 1: Fit the front wheel if it is separate and tighten the axle nuts evenly.
Step 2: Fit the handlebars, lined up with the front wheel, and tighten them firmly.
Step 3: Fit the seat post and set the height so the child can sit with both feet flat and knees slightly bent.
Step 4: Fit the axle caps or bolt covers so no sharp bolt ends are left exposed.
Step 5: Check that the handlebars and seat cannot twist under hard pressure.
Common mistakes
- Setting the seat too high so the child cannot push off.
- Leaving the handlebar grips loose so they slide off.
- Forgetting to tighten the steering, so the bars turn but the wheel does not.
Safety notes
- Use a helmet from the very first ride.
- Keep to flat, traffic-free areas at first.
