How to install an under-desk cable tray

• Cordless drill with a small bit
• Cross-head screwdriver
• Tape measure
• Pencil

Before you start, lay everything out on a soft surface (the flattened box works) and check it against the parts list in your manual.

• Cable tray
• Wood screws of the right length or screw-free clamps
• Power strip
• Cable ties or hook-and-loop straps

   Step 1: Measure the desktop thickness and pick screws shorter than it, or use clamps if the desk top is glass or thin.

   Step 2: Hold the tray against the underside near the back edge, clear of legs and any desk frame or lift motor, and mark its holes.

   Step 3: Drill small pilot holes no deeper than the screws and screw the tray up into the desk.

   Step 4: Put the power strip in the tray and plug in the desk's devices, keeping the strip's switch where you can reach it.

   Step 5: Coil the spare cable into the tray and strap the bundles so nothing hangs to the floor.

   Step 6: Run one main lead from the strip to the wall socket; on a standing desk, raise the desk fully to check that lead does not go tight.

   Step 7: Leave room in the tray for air around power bricks, and do not cover them with cable coils.

• Plugging one power strip into another to reach the wall.
• Screwing through thin desks, so screw tips come up through the top.
• Fixing the tray where it rubs on a standing desk's frame when it moves.
