How to assemble an air bike

An air bike (fan bike) has a large fan at the front and moving handlebars linked to the pedals, so arms and legs work together. The linkage arms and the fan guard are what make it different from an ordinary exercise bike, and both need to be fitted correctly.

Tools needed

  • Allen keys (supplied)
  • Spanners (supplied)
  • Pedal spanner or 15 mm spanner

Parts to check first

Before you start, lay everything out on a soft surface (the flattened box works) and check it against the parts list in your manual.

  • Main frame with fan and fan guard
  • Front and rear stabilisers
  • Left and right moving handlebars
  • Linkage arms, footrests and seat
  • Pedals, console and bolts

Step by step

  1. Step 1: Bolt the front and rear stabilisers to the main frame, with the transport wheels at the front, then stand the frame upright.

  2. Step 2: Fit the seat post and saddle, and set a trial height with the pop pin and clamp.

  3. Step 3: Slide each moving handlebar onto its pivot on the frame with the bushings and washers in the order the manual shows, and fit the end bolts.

  4. Step 4: Connect each linkage arm between the bottom of its handlebar and the crank arm on the same side, checking the arms are not crossed.

  5. Step 5: Fit the pedals, right pedal (R) clockwise and left pedal (L) counterclockwise, then fit the footrests if supplied.

  6. Step 6: Mount the console on its bracket, connect the sensor cable, and fit the batteries.

  7. Step 7: Check the fan guard is complete and every screw is in, then pedal slowly and move the handlebars to check nothing rubs or clicks.

Common mistakes

  • Connecting a linkage arm to the wrong crank, so the arms and legs move out of sync.
  • Leaving out a bushing at the handlebar pivot, which causes play and noise.
  • Riding with part of the fan guard missing.

Safety notes

  • Keep children, pets and loose clothing away from the fan and moving handlebars.
  • The fan and handlebars keep moving after you stop pedalling; let them slow before getting off.
