How to assemble a TV stand

• Allen key (supplied)
• Cross-head screwdriver
• Small hammer
• Spirit level
• Wall fixings for the anti-tip kit

Before you start, lay everything out on a soft surface (the flattened box works) and check it against the parts list in your manual.

• Top, bottom, sides and centre divider
• Back panel
• Doors, drawer parts or glass shelves
• Hinges, runners, cam locks and dowels
• Anti-tip strap or bracket

   Step 1: Lay the bottom panel on a soft surface and fit the dowels and cam bolts into it and into the sides and divider.

   Step 2: Join the sides and divider to the bottom panel and lock the cams half a turn, with the arrows pointing at the bolts.

   Step 3: Fit the top panel onto the upright parts and lock its cams.

   Step 4: Check that the carcass is square by measuring both diagonals at the back, then fix the back panel along every edge.

   Step 5: Screw the hinges onto the doors and the runners into the carcass as your manual shows, and build any drawers.

   Step 6: Hang the doors and use the hinge adjustment screws to even up the gaps.

   Step 7: Place the stand where it will go, check it is level, and fit the anti-tip strap from the stand to the wall.

   Step 8: Put the TV on the stand and secure the TV itself with its own strap to the wall or stand.

• Leaving out the back panel, which is what stops the stand racking sideways under a heavy TV.
• Using a TV stand smaller than the TV's base or feet.
• Running cables so they pull on the TV when someone opens a door.
