How to assemble a changing table
A changing table is usually a chest of drawers with a raised changing top. It needs to be solid, with the guard edges fitted all round, and fixed to the wall: a baby is leaned over it every day and a toddler will climb it later.

Tools needed
- Allen key (supplied)
- Cross-head screwdriver
- Small hammer
- Wall fixings to suit your wall
Parts to check first
Before you start, lay everything out on a soft surface (the flattened box works) and check it against the parts list in your manual.
- Carcass panels and back
- Drawers or shelves
- Changing top with raised guard edges
- Cam locks, dowels, runners and screws
- Anti-tip fitting
Step by step
Step 1: Build the carcass on its back, square it, and fix the back panel along every edge.
Step 2: Build the drawers and fit the runners, or fit the shelves.
Step 3: Fit the changing top and its guard edges on all sides the manual shows, with every screw.
Step 4: Stand the unit in place away from windows and radiators, and check it is level.
Step 5: Fix it to the wall with the anti-tip fitting before first use.
Step 6: Put the changing mat on and check it cannot slide off the edge.
Common mistakes
- Leaving out a guard edge because it looks optional.
- Using a changing mat larger than the top, so it overhangs.
- Skipping the wall fixing because the unit is heavy.
Safety notes
- Never leave a baby alone on a changing table, even for a moment.
- Keep creams, wipes and supplies within your reach but out of the baby's.
- Fix the unit to the wall; toddlers climb open drawers.
