How to assemble a high chair
High chairs range from simple wooden chairs to folding models with adjustable seats and trays. Whatever the type, the harness and the crotch restraint are what keep a child in, so they must be fitted and used every time.

Parts to check first
Before you start, lay everything out on a soft surface (the flattened box works) and check it against the parts list in your manual.
- Legs and frame
- Seat and footrest
- Tray
- Harness with crotch strap or post
- Bolts and caps
Step by step
Step 1: Build the frame and legs, or unfold a folding model until it clicks into the open position.
Step 2: Fit the footrest at the height the manual shows for your child.
Step 3: Fit the seat and thread the harness through the correct slots for your child's size.
Step 4: Fit the crotch strap or post; it stops the child from sliding under the tray.
Step 5: Clip on the tray and check it locks at each position.
Step 6: Stand the chair on a flat floor and push it to check it is stable, then tighten any bolt that moves.
Common mistakes
- Relying on the tray alone to hold a child in.
- Putting the chair close to a table or wall the child can push off from.
- Not checking the folding locks are engaged before seating the child.

- Always use the harness and crotch restraint.
- Never leave a child alone in a high chair, and keep it away from cords, cookers and hot drinks.
