How to assemble a pop-up canopy tent

• Rubber mallet (for pegs)
• Leg weights or sandbags
• Work gloves

Before you start, lay everything out on a soft surface (the flattened box works) and check it against the parts list in your manual.

• Folding scissor frame with sliding leg brackets
• Canopy roof
• Pegs and guy ropes
• Side walls (optional)
• Wheeled storage bag

   Step 1: Stand the folded frame upright on its feet in the middle of your chosen spot, with enough clear space all round and nothing overhead.

   Step 2: With one person on each side, grip the frame at the lower cross bars and walk backward together, pulling it about half open.

   Step 3: At this half-open, waist-height stage, throw the canopy roof over the frame and fasten its corner straps or hook-and-loop tabs to each corner post.

   Step 4: Push the frame fully open, then press each corner slider up until the pin clicks into place; keep fingers out of the scissor joints while you do it.

   Step 5: Raise the legs one corner at a time to the same height, letting each push-button lock snap into its hole.

   Step 6: Peg the feet into soft ground or strap leg weights to each leg on hard ground, then add guy ropes at the corners if the manual supplies them.

   Step 7: Hang any side walls on the frame, and to take it down, reverse the order: lower legs, release sliders, remove the roof, then walk the frame closed.

• Trying to fit the roof once the frame is fully raised, when it is out of reach and strains the fabric.
• Opening the frame from one side only, which bends the scissor bars.
• Leaving the legs unweighted because it looks calm.
