How to assemble a garden gazebo

• Allen keys and spanners (supplied)
• Step ladders
• Spirit level
• Drill and anchors for your ground or deck

Before you start, lay everything out on a soft surface (the flattened box works) and check it against the parts list in your manual.

• Four or more posts and bases
• Top beams and corner brackets
• Roof frame and ridge
• Roof panels or canopy
• Anchor plates, screws, pegs or weights

   Step 1: Check the ground is level and that the gazebo fits, with clearance from walls, trees and overhead cables.

   Step 2: Bolt the post bases to the posts, then stand the posts and join them with the top beams, snug but not fully tight.

   Step 3: Check the frame is square and upright, then tighten the beam bolts.

   Step 4: Build the roof frame on the ground if the manual allows, then lift it onto the posts with a helper and fix it.

   Step 5: Anchor every post to the ground, deck or weights before fitting the roof.

   Step 6: Fit the canopy or roof panels, starting from the ridge, and tension any fabric evenly.

   Step 7: Fit curtains, netting or gutters last, once the roof is tensioned and the frame anchored.

• Fitting the canopy before anchoring, so a gust lifts the frame.
• Leaving the fabric slack so rainwater pools on it.
• Building on a slope without packing the post bases level.
