How to assemble a resin garden shed

• Cordless drill with screwdriver bit
• Rubber mallet
• Spirit level
• Step ladder
• Tape measure

Before you start, lay everything out on a soft surface (the flattened box works) and check it against the parts list in your manual.

• Floor panels
• Wall and corner panels
• Gable ends and roof panels
• Metal roof beams and wall stiffeners
• Doors, hinges, latch and screws

   Step 1: Prepare a flat, level base slightly larger than the shed footprint, such as paving slabs or a timber base, and check it with a level in both directions.

   Step 2: Lay out the floor panels and join them as the manual shows, then check the finished floor is square by measuring both diagonals.

   Step 3: Starting at a corner, slot the first corner panel and the wall panels next to it into the floor channel, fixing each with the screws given.

   Step 4: Slide the metal stiffeners into the wall panels where shown as you go, then continue around the shed until all walls stand, leaving the door opening.

   Step 5: With your helper on the ladder, fit the gable ends and drop the metal roof beam into place, then lay the roof panels from one end, overlapping as the manual shows.

   Step 6: Screw the roof panels down, fit the ridge caps, and check the walls are still square before the last screws are tightened.

   Step 7: Hang the doors on their hinges, adjust them until they meet evenly and the latch catches, and fit the handles and any lock hasp.

   Step 8: Anchor the shed to the base with the kit or suitable fixings for your base, as the manual describes, so wind cannot shift it.

• Building on grass or an uneven patio, which twists the floor and stops the doors closing.
• Missing a metal stiffener, so the walls bow or the roof sags under rain or snow.
• Overtightening screws into the plastic, which cracks the panel or strips the hole.
