How to fit a washer-dryer stacking kit

• Cross-head screwdriver
• Spirit level
• Adjustable spanner
• Work gloves

Before you start, lay everything out on a soft surface (the flattened box works) and check it against the parts list in your manual.

• Stacking kit frame or brackets
• Shelf or pull-out tray (if included)
• Fixing screws and anti-slip pads
• Straps or clamps

   Step 1: Check that the kit is made for both of your machines' width and depth; the manual lists compatible models or sizes.

   Step 2: Unplug both machines and turn off the water to the washing machine.

   Step 3: Level the washing machine with its adjustable feet, checking both directions with a spirit level.

   Step 4: Fit the stacking kit to the top of the washing machine exactly as the kit's manual shows.

   Step 5: With a helper, lift the dryer onto the kit, placing it into the brackets or pads, and fix any straps or clamps.

   Step 6: Push the stack back carefully, reconnect water and power, and run a short wash to check nothing vibrates loose.

• Stacking a dryer on a washing machine without a kit.
• Stacking on a machine that is not level, which makes the pair walk during the spin.
• Stacking a washing machine on top of a dryer, which is not how these kits are designed.
